The back is safer for the passenger, and the taxi driver

security… most drivers, for safety reasons, their own, don’t want you up front. in some places with a divider it’s not even legal to sit up front.

lol because even though you are already risking your life by riding with this person, i dont think many people will take any chance at sitting next to a complete stranger and feeling uncomfortable

Are you kidding me? it’s common sense, and it’s not movies,it’s real.
you got empty seats at the back, why do you wanna sit the one seat next to the driver unless you want to kill the cabbie?
plus the cab driver puts stuff on the front seat.
unless it’s four of you, then three can seat at the back and one in the front, but it hardly happens.

Some taxi drivers wont allow you to sit in the front seat for their safety, but sometimes they dont mind…
Its up to you when they dont mind, up front has airbags and more of a chance to start a conversation with the driver, plus its easier to see the time/fare and easier to hand him money.
But some people prefer the back seat because its weird sitting up there when you dont know the person, and its nice to feel like you’re being chauffeured around

For the privacy of the fare. They are much more comfortable in the back seat than in the front where the computer and paperwork is used. Nearly everyone who answered this question got one thing very wrong. I recently took a two day class to start taxi driving. The teacher and all of the experienced drivers said they would prefer that the fare sit in the front seat. They can see what the fare is doing. It would be much harder for the fare to pull a gun or knife without the cabbie seeing it. If the fare is in the back seat, the cabbie can have his throat cut or be shot without ever seeing any warning.
